| Corfu Island |
 |
Kerkyra is a holiday destination that can offer to a visitor almost every tourist service and activity for any kind of budget such as studios, apartments, hotels and villas for low budget or VIP holidays, an amazing city sightseeing (now a monument of UNESCO), food tours, boat excursions, unique beauty of shaded walking tours by the coast or on the Pantokrator mountain, water sports, day trips to other smaller near by islands, exotic beaches (pebble or sandy) for paragliding high above the azure sea or
diving in its translucent depths and of course fast ferries to Italy and Albania or ferries to Greece and the islands.
Corfu (Kerkyra) island is more than sun and sea: it is a place of rich history and culture, mostly effected by the English, the Venetians and the French rulers, combined with legendary beauty and amazing diversity, with one of the most varied and beautiful coastlines in the world. For an island of its size, Corfu shows an
astonishing variety in its landscape: imposing limestone mountains in
the north, fertile hills and valleys in the
center, cliffs and glorious sandy beaches around the
north and west coastline, sandy beach resorts and richly
agricultural land in the south.
Corfu's landscape is lushly green and encompasses mountains and valleys,
lakes and rivers, ancient villages and
modern resorts. It encourages exploration -
on foot, by car or bus, with a mountain-bike, even on horseback. Above
all, Corfu is famous for its hospitality, for
the friendliness and kindness of its people and the
visitor cannot fail to be enchanted by the welcome to be found
on this magical and still unspoiled in some
areas by the mass tourism, island.
The lovely old Venetian town of Kerkyra, resplendent in colors of blue
and gold and dominated by its imposing 16th
century fortress, sums up the essence of
Corfu's history. The influence of the Venetians is most marked in the
architecture, yet the famous Liston, where you
may sit with a drink and watch the world go
by, was based on the Rue de Rivoli. And from time to time, you may
watch a game of cricket there, legacy of the
British Protectorate. The Corfu shopping is a must for every visitor due to the variety of local products (some of which can be found exclusively in Corfu) and
the Corfu restaurants are serving Greek, local and international cuisine.
With its offshore Diapontian Islands, Corfu is the northernmost island in the Ionian group. Lying off the northwest coast of mainland Greece, where the Adriatic Sea flows into the Ionian, its geographical position has had a marked effect on its history (read more for the Corfu's history and culture on this site), its appearance and its weather. In the spring there is a profusion of blossom and wild flowers, vivid against the forest green backdrop of the hillsides. There are magnolias, sea daffodils and fields of wild chamomile. A little later come the mimosa and oleander -hedgefuls of it, the fruits of the orange and lemon trees and the bitter Kumquat. |

In the summer the broom on the northern slopes of Mount Pantokrator stretches away like a yellow sea to the brilliant blue of the real sea beyond. In autumn the ochre and raspberry red, yellow, pink and umber colors of the countryside are unmatched.
For those of you who wish to come don't miss the Corfu Sidari resort with its amazing coast formation, the Corfu water park - also known as Aqualand, the magnificent bay of Agios Georgios (north part), the Agni bay and generally a drive all the way of Corfu north side, Arillas and Glyfada beach, the Kanoni view with the fmaous Mouse island, the Paleokastritsa village and the view from Lakones village, a night tour in Ipsos and Dassia resorts, the Fortresses of the town and many many more places of interest in Kerkyra that are waiting from you to be discovered!
